Spring 2008
We continue to witness breakthroughs in volunteer involvement and positive influence of the ministries of Camp Sparta. God is shaping our ministry to be an increasingly effective tool to engage this generation of students, encourage and assist churches and effectively reach out to our community. God has been doing some amazing things to pave the way for a bright future.
First and foremost, he has shaken us out of maintenance mode. No longer is Camp Sparta just existing; it is advancing. God has settled fur us the uncertainty of a possible move away from Sebring, and we are full steam ahead. The future direction of Camp Sparta is this:
“To intentionally and progressively develop Camp Sparta as a quality Student Ministry and Retreat Center wit the goal of expanding Student Ministries to a dedicated satellite campus; operating both facilities as one cohesive ministry to the glory of God.”
We have outlined a series of prioritized projects to demonstrate our confidence in God’s leading and our desire to use this campus more effectively for His Glory. The project before us is a 6,000 square foot skate park. This will be a colossal enhancement to the recreational aspect of our facility.
Besides the obvious benefits to our summer program, we plan to use this as another tool for outreach to our community. Camp Sparta will have open skate nights where local students can come, skate all evening and hear a gospel presentation. Another planned use is to host skateboarding competitions. These are real opportunities to show our community God’s love an share His truth while gaining critical exposure of the camp. We have connected with local skateboard shops and other Christian business men who are excited about this idea and want to get involved. This is a vital tool that will allow us to more effectively minister to today’s generation of students.
This is happening now. We are planning to use this skate park this summer. You might think that’s pretty ambitious, but God has already worked in amazing ways to get us to this point. He has resolved insurance issues, He has led us to key people with the passion and expertise for this project, and He has provided the funds to get it started. We are asking for your help. We are praying that God would use His people to help us realize our goal of $6000 for the completion of this ministry tool. I am confident that God will provide.
If you would like to know more about his project, or feel that God may be leading you to help financially, please contact me at the camp. I would love any opportunity to hare more about our vision for the camp and the direction God has given us. Praise the Lord, we’re moving forward. John 3:30 For more of Him and less or me-
